HANBAO means burger in Mandarin, and the Digbeth-based eatery is an east meets west dining experience. Sebastian and Alexander's original dream was to create a quality spot for diners to enjoy the ultimate in fast food. The unique burgers and cocktails served here are all about heavy indulgence; great food, great environment and great service.

In a nutshell, what does the business do?

Seb: I take the office role in managing everything business-related, always trying to improve, grow and push it forward. Alex takes the operative side, so anything front or back of house. Alex is the hands-on driving force that keeps everything running smoothly and as it should. 

How long have you been working in Digbeth?

We opened the doors to HANBAO Digbeth in April 2022, so almost a year and a half now.

What makes your business so special?

The differentiation that HANBAO has is the fusion between east and west with influences from music, art and present culture. 

What do you like most about working in Birmingham’s Creative Quarter?

Digbeth is an up and coming area with a great community base and opportunities at every corner.

Where do you normally go for lunch in B9?

There are a lot of good lunch spots in Digbeth, but our go to is Baked and Brick. Their home-made bread is great.

Do you have a recommendation for the best thing to do in Digbeth outside of work?

Digbeth offers such a variety of things to do, from board games and arcades to day raves, to even having its own cinema. Digbeth can give you a great day / night out.

What are you currently working on?

We’re always working on improving, whether it’s menu development or daily operations, we’re always looking at fine-tuning what we do and finding ways to grow from it, and speaking of growing, Bristol is on the cards for next year!
