Introduce yourself…name, job title, & the company you work for.

David Green, Director Operations, The Mighty Shed

In a nutshell, what do you do?

From the first day my wife and business partner started the company, I said I’d use my agency background to help with the back end of the business. Eleven years later, with offices in the UK and US, it’s safe to say it’s gotten a lot more complicated.

How long have you been working in Digbeth?

I’ve always loved walking through Digbeth from the first year I moved to the city in 2008. The Mighty Shed was finally able to be part of the area in 2013, renting our first, small space in Fazeley Studios.

What makes your business so special?

The Mighty Shed is specific in industries where  we consult in brand potential, using cultural influence markers as signs for future codes. We cover the space between pleasure and wellness, knowing the line of happiness and joy is often blurred between what’s good for you, and what feels good.

What do you like most about working in Birmingham’s Creative Quarter?

Small pockets of inner cities and city centres, wherever I’ve lived, are spaces where the people and culture are viewed as the alternative neighbourhood. To me, it’s a quick way to jump in, and understand the true fibre of the city, without having to sift through the well-dressed, well-behaved, and well-balanced.

Where do you normally go for lunch in B9?

Han Bao is one of my favourite places to eat and hang out in Digbeth. Even as a vegetarian! The plant burger, beer, and Han Bao team create a cozy atmosphere, with the interior providing an unusual aesthetic.

Do you have a recommendation for the best thing to do in Digbeth outside of work?

If you come here with 100 people, there will be something to please everyone. But if you come on your own, it’ll take you forever to soak in in all of it. Nighttime is of course the buzzy time, but the Old Crown is open every day.

What are you currently working on?

This autumn, we’re in the process of adding more work space to our Tubeworks offices. We have employees come to Birmingham once a month, and Tubeworks is a place they were, at first, surprised to find it exists in Birmingham. Now they look forward to coming up north to work amongst the relaxed and chilled environment.
